Rain Makes Everything Grow
Have you ever imagined a day without access to clean water?
UPDATE MAY 2023 - The first water tank has been funded and installed! See below for a picture! We are so grateful to our generous donors - let’s keep going to raise the remaining $900 for the second tank!
The United Nations estimates the minimum annual requirement of water per person is 1700 cubic meters (449,093 gallons). In Rwanda, the overall availability of fresh water per person per year is only 638 cubic meters (168,542 gallons) which is less than half of the annual minimum requirement. This classifies Rwanda as a water scarce country.
In technical terms, my country is said to be experiencing water stress. So, let us not waste a drop of water, start conserving water for further use and in the process teach the students at Archangel the value of respecting and conserving water.
The Government of Rwanda promotes rainwater harvesting. Rain Water Harvesting from rooftops is, fortunately, widely practiced in schools, institutions and homes in Rwanda.
Archangel relies on water for many different kinds of day-to-day activities, such as cleaning, washing, bathing, cooking, drinking, farming, etc…we are currently in need of at least two 10,000 liter water tanks to help move us toward self-sufficiency with our water supply and to supplement water requirements during summer and drought conditions.
This project will help collect rain water from roofs within our school property, store them in those harvesting tanks and use it for multiple purposes including cleaning our premises, washing, gardening, and caring for small animals on the school farm. This will reduce runoff loss as well as the risk of flooding, and help in reducing the water bill all while promoting environmental protection. It is a win-win-win!
Please support our project!
The cost for one tank including its transport and installation is 900$. Thank you SO much to our generous donors! We are thrilled to share an image of the first 10,000L water tank being installed - and just in time for the rains! It is almost full already and we immediately began using the water. Only one more tank to go!
